In an effort to organize my time (and be sure I actually get things done during the day!), I attempted a daily/weekly schedule. It looked something like this:
6:30 morning routine (things like making the bed, making David's lunch, breakfast, etc)
7:00 quiet time
7:30 gym
10:00 shower
10:30 household tasks (actual chores - vacuuming, laundry, etc)
11:30 desk work (making appointments, budgeting, grocery list making, etc)
12:30 lunch
1:30 household taks (things I enjoy more than chores - organizing, decorating, etc)
2:30 free time (TV, interwebs, etc)
4:00 prep for David to come home (get the home fires burning, start dinner, etc)
5:30 dinner
6:30 gym
8:30 free time
9:30 evening routine (tidy up, prep for tomorrow, etc)
10:00 quiet time
Recently, I switched morning quiet time with morning routine so that my quiet time is the first thing I do in the mornings. However, I have recently realized that I am not an early riser. I hear time and time again that I need to rise with my husband and go to bed with my husband. I just can't seem to rouse at 6:30. I didn't think this would be an issue because this was the time I woke up all through high school. I guess after years of not getting up at 6:30 are working against me now. So, needless to say, that morning quiet time wasn't even happening.
So I'm attempting to develop a new paradigm regarding my time at home. Perhaps more of a list. And baby steps - definitely baby steps.
- Step 1: Get up at 7:00 am.
- Step 2: Make a list of three tasks that MUST be done each day. And do them.
- Step 3: Go to bed at 11:00 pm.
Three steps that I can take to win back my time. I find that the more emphasis I put on something, the less likely I am to do them. Weird, I know.
In other news, the new Breaking Dawn trailer is out! I'm so excited but so sad to see the franchise come to an end. I know when I finished the books, I felt so...sadly...empty. Haha! So we'll see how I do with the movies. All I know, is it will be epic! How they are going to cram all that into two two hour movies, I have no idea! :)
I have exactly the same problem you do so I can sympathize. I have found a scientific principle to be true, even when it comes to housework or accomplishing anything really. A body at rest tends to stay at rest. And conversely, a body in motion tends to stay in motion.
ReplyDeleteI find it helps me to just make a deal with myself that I will at least work on something (say the dishes for instance)for at least 15 mins, then I can quit. At least that way I have made a dent in it. Even set a timer if you like. 9 times out of 10 you will either have it done before the timer goes off, or you will now have the motivation to continue with the task to see it to completion. Works for me (when I apply it). Also, promising myself a "treat" or that I can allow myself to rest or "play" when I have completed what I set out to do seems helpful.
